The Brief
A corporate responsibility video was commissioned by GEMS to document a donation handover to a rural secondary school and primary school in Thaba Nchu, located in the Free State province of South Africa — one of the country’s most historically significant and economically under-resourced communities.
The initiative formed part of GEMS’s ongoing commitment to social impact, education support, and community upliftment in areas where access to basic school resources remains a daily challenge. As part of the handover, GEMS donated full school uniform kits to learners at both institutions — benefiting 100 students at the secondary school and 50 students at the primary school. The donation aimed to directly support learner dignity, school attendance, and improved access to education within the local community.
The handover event brought together key national, regional, and local stakeholders, underscoring the importance of collaboration between government, public institutions, and community leadership in driving meaningful social change. Attendees included the GEMS Principal Officer, the Deputy Minister of the Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA), the Executive Mayor of Mangaung Metropolitan Municipality (Bloemfontein), and a local community representative.
ROW.D Agency was commissioned to produce a professional corporate responsibility video that documented the initiative with sensitivity, authenticity, and clarity. The two-day production covered the full handover ceremony, stakeholder engagements, beneficiary interactions, and the community context that gives a donation of this kind its real meaning. POPIA compliance was maintained throughout all interview and beneficiary filming. The final 3-minute corporate responsibility video was delivered within one week of the shoot — ready for use across GEMS’s internal CSI reporting, stakeholder communications, ESG documentation, and broader public engagement.
